About the facilitator: Susan Grant

susan grantSusan Grant has a B.A. in Religion from Wake Forest University and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Western Carolina University. She spent 15 years working in the field of outdoor/experiential education as an Outward Bound Instructor and as a whitewater canoe and kayak instructor for the Nantahala Outdoor Center.

She has worked as a psychologist in private practice, hospital, and in primary care settings. Her specialty has been combining her training in evidence based “Western” therapeutic approaches with “Eastern” mindfulness and meditation skills.

She has extensive experience as a cognitive therapist, working with individuals and with groups addressing a variety of issues including anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and depression.

For several years she facilitated groups in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for the prevention of relapse of depression, treatment of stress related illnesses, anxiety, and chronic pain. She currently co-facilitates Stress Reduction Through Mindfulness groups at the Mission Hospital Women's Resource Center.

Susan has facilitated InnerVision introspective skills groups for the past 15 years. These ongoing personal growth groups draw heavily on concepts of mindfulness training and are an extremely effective tool for expanding self understanding and for making concrete change in participant's lives.

Susan has studied and practiced Buddhist meditation since 1990, and is a dedicated student of mindfulness and meditation. She brings to her work with others the awareness of her own challenges and the rich rewards of bringing mindfulness to each moment of life.

Individual Adult Psychotherapy

Susan utilizes a variety of approaches, including psychosynthesis, the Enneagram, and guided visualization, and chooses her approach based on the needs of each client. With all of her work, she integrates cognitive therapy and mindfulness training in order to help the client develop the ability to identify the causes of their suffering and to master the skills needed for healing, growth, and change.

Testimonial:
“I have been a participant in Susan Grant’s Inner Vision group for two years. The experience has been valuable and insightful. Susan creates an atmosphere in her groups that is so supportive of each member’s life experience, then and now. She demonstrates, consistently, the remarkable ability to observe, not judge – to hear but not advise. Her own mindfulness training is most evident and allows her to be an expert group facilitator.”
